Joan, played by Shirley Chen, is ostracized for her heritage and uses a, at times, "grotesque" process to look caucasian, after which she is portrayed by Mckenna Grace.
I really don't know how this body horror thing has become a genre but this was the tamest entry in the genre so far. This is like The Substance but watered down for a more teenage audience. Nowhere near the over the top gore and grossness of other ones with a pretty decent premise but it pretty much fails to hit any marks it was aiming for.
I wouldn't really recommend anyone bothering with this. It's a just kind of there type of movie that is very forgettable.
