Elio
Elio, an underdog with an active imagination, finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Mistakenly identified as Earth's ambassador to the rest of the universe, he starts to form new bonds with eccentric aliens while discovering who he's truly meant to be.
This was a textbook Pixar movie. Great for kids and adults. Great messaging for children. Cute characters and a great flow of the story telling. One of the rare movies nowadays that wasn't too long and didn't drag. The only knock I can honestly make against this is that it won't stay with you like most of Pixar's classics. It's really good but could end up being considered forgettable compared to the rest of their library.
I would definitely recommend people checking this out. it's a nice and fun/simple watch for families, adults and kids alike.
28 Years Later
It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped from a biological weapons laboratory. Still living in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amid the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of them decides to venture into the dark heart of the mainland, he soon discovers a mutation that has spread to not only the infected, but other survivors as well.
This was literally a movie of two halves. The first half of the move was actually really good. I liked the set up of the island and the mainland kind of thing with the limited option of how to get there, etc. I was really digging it. And then about half way through the movie turned into something completely different and dragged like hell and quite honestly sucked. Then at the very end - like literally the last two minutes they did the most random connection to the start of the movie and I guess it was nothing but a set up for sequel? It was all very disjointed and pretty disappointing - especially after how much I enjoyed the first half of the movie.
I would unfortunately not recommend anyone bothering with this. It started so good but then just went waaaaaay off the rails.

Materialists
A young New York City matchmaker's lucrative business gets complicated as she finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex.
So there are few things that annoy me more than advertising a movie as something and then it not being that. This was hyped as a romantic comedy. There was literally not one laugh in this whole movie. And quite honestly there wasn't much romance in it either. I give the movie credit for being a good character drama about how matchmaking has made dating life brutal with very realistic characters and situations. BUT . . . . that was not what was advertised.
I would somewhat recommend this movie for anyone who wants to feel more hopeless about dating in today's world than they might already. But if you are looking for a comedy this is absolutely not one.
Dangerous Animals
A shark-obsessed serial killer holds Zephyr, a rebellious surfer, captive on his boat. Racing against time, she must figure out a way to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below.
How in the holy hell was this a wide theatrical release? Better question - how in the holy hell was this a wide theatrical release IN THE SUMMER? This was basically a made for tv movie. It was a somewhat decent and out there premise that absolutely did not make an entire movie. This movie was only 90 minutes long and that was honestly still an hour too long.
I would definitely not recommend anyone bothering with this. It's not even a movie that is so cheesy that it's a good silly watch. There is basically one shark attack scene and then 85 minutes of blah blah blah.
