Semi-Pro

Will Ferrell stars in Semi-Pro, a comedy set in 1976 against the backdrop of the maverick ABA – a fast-paced, wild and crazy basketball league that rivaled the NBA and made a name for itself with innovations like the three-point shot and slam dunk contest. Ferrell plays Jackie Moon, a one-hit wonder who used the profits from the success of his chart-topping song "Love Me Sexy" to achieve his dream of owning a basketball team. But Moon's franchise, the Flint Michigan Tropics, is the worst team in the league and in danger of folding when the ABA announces its plans to merge with the NBA. If they want to survive, Jackie and the Tropics must now do the seemingly impossible – win.

I happen to think that Will Ferrell is the funniest man on the face of the planet. I have no idea how anyone can possibly keep a straight face while watching him. He was his usual hysterical self in this movie. Unfortunately, there wasn't much else beside him here. In movies like Anchorman, Talladega Nights and Blades Of Glory, his supporting cast is much funnier than they were in Semi-Pro and you definitely feel it at multiple times during the movie where there seems to be way too much dead space. Don't get me wrong - the laughs are HUGE at times in this movie and worth seeing for them if you enjoy Ferrell, but this is a movie that I wouldn't find myself watching over and over again like his other comedies.

I'd recommend anyone checking this movie out who was interested in seeing it. You won't be completely disappointed, but you will probably be somewhat so even with the occasional huge laughs.
